ABSTRACT
This study was aimed to determine the binderless briquettibility characteristics of Beyşehir, Ilgın and Ermenek coals. Because of the high ash content of Beyşehir Lignite, a washing study was carried out. Coal ash being finely disseminated, can not be removed. Firstly the briquetting was carried out in a laboratory scale press than, continued in an exter press. The briquettes produced by the exter press were tested to measure mechanical strength and burned in a stove for combustion efficiency determination.
The experiments showed that the briquettes made from Ilgın Coal have satisfactory mechanical strength and combustion efficiency as a household fuel. Although the Beyşehir briquettes were more strong, the combustion efficiency was low due to high ash content. Ermenek Coal is not suitable for binderless briquetting. The briquettes produced from Ilgın and Beyşehir Lignites were not water-resistant.
