ABSTRACT
        The area which has been investigated is located at 46 km. southwest of Eleşkirt town, Ağrı district Eastern Turkey. It covers an area of 7 km. aft. and the workable lignite bearing basin is 0.5 km sq Lignite has been interlayered with clay beds. These clays unconformably overlie the basement rocks which are andesites and basalts. Kaolinite, illite and montmorillonite type clays are abundant.
        Totaly 7 in number (4 of exploration and the others ore production purposed) drill-holes have been completed to evaluate the position of Lignite of the basin. As a result of these drillings probable rezerves are calculated as 507.000 tons.
