ABSTRACT
       The Analytical Laboratories of the Mineral Research and Exploration Institute of Turkey (MTA) have procured equipment to provide rapid analyses for field investigations of the Mineral Exploration and Training Project conducted jointly by MTA and the US Geological Survey (USGS). The equipment consists of atomic absorption, X-Ray and optical emission units. The USGS has sent technical personnel to calibrate the X-Ray and spectrographic apparatus and to advise on analytical procedures, and MTA has sent laboratory personnel to the USGS Laboratories in Washington, DC to study analytical techniques and procedures.
       The new laboratory instruments should enable MTA to perform a variety of rapid analyses of minerals and trace elements; ores and alloys can be analysed spectrographically by adopting special techniques. Rapid rock analysis could be performed with little or no additional equipment, and a mineral separation laboratory could be established.
