• ETUDE MİNERALOGİGUE ET PETROGRAPHİGUE DE LA REGİON DE BASKİSLA DANS LE TAURUS OCCİDENTAL (KARAMAN, VİLAYET DE KONYA, TURGUİE)

ABSTRACT
This study covers an area around the town of Baskisla, which lies 45 kilometers SW of Karaman, in
the province of Konya, Turkey. The area is the part the northern folds of western Taurus Mountain range.
Two distinct lithological series are recognized in the region. The calcareous series consists of 300
meters of massive recrystallized limestone, extending from the Upper Triassic with involutina sinuosa
sinuosa and involutina sinuosa pragsoides to the Cretaceous with Rudists. It overthrusts the siliceous series
of Cretaceous age.
The siliceous series has a thickness of approximately 500-550 meters, and is composed of shales,
radiolarites, siliceous limestones and sandstones. It is of particular importance because of the presence of
ophiolites, notably serpentinites, which in turn contain inclusions of diabase, gabbro and radiolarite. The
most interesting inclusions are the "ophispherites", a variety of rodingites. Granites and keratophyres are
also found in the siliceous series. The latter are quartzitic albite-bearing trachytes probably resulting from
the secondary transformation of a magma of tholeitic composition.
Pyroclastic rocks are interbedded within the siliceous series. The most characteristic mineral of the
pyroclastites is analcime which is most likely formed by diagenesis of volcanic glass.
